Mailing lists serve me well. I lurk on over 50 mailing lists. I
would not be able to scan through them all of them quickly if the
medium were web-based. There is too much latency to get content.

Most people only use luau in read-only mode. There are only a
few messages posted to luau each day. Would there really be more
participation if the discussions were web-based?

Although I personally prefer mailing lists, having both in the
long term would be a disservice to the community.

This might be the catalyst to get the 250+ subscribers to luau to
participate more. Or, the forums will run empty because there is
not much to discuss.

I guess this would mean no more HTML-ized E-mail.
One technical concern is hosting. Will HOSEF/luau always have the
blessing from UH? A mailing list is very light weight compared to
a web-based forum. That will greatly affect hosting options in
the future.
