I think web boards actually use a smaller amount of bandwidth, however
server CPU usage goes up dramatically. Most sites where bandwidth is
a concern can save considerably on bandwidth usage by enabling gzip
compression on the serverside. Most web browsers support gzip
compressed pages, otherwise the server automatically falls back to
uncompressed. This causes more CPU usage on the server of course.
Bandwidth savings are about 80%. Considerable.
