It certainly is true about the macros. There are macros and even a macro 
writer apparently based on the obscure StarOffice system. I was not able 
to figure it out; I found a few brave souls on the web who had written 
macros that worked and were willing to share them.  It is definitely a 
shortcoming. On the other hand, the macro writer in Word is fairly 
obscure compared to the very simple one in Wordperfect. Also, some of 
the things you might need a macro for are taken care of by embedded 
options you can turn on or off.
