You shouldn't need System Commander.  Linux has some nice boot 
manangers already, LILO and GRUB.  GRUB is newer, but they both
are good.  It is also possible to configure the NT boot menu to
use Linux, so it /may/ be possible to configure XP similarly.
Using the NT bootmenu is kind of a pain though, because anytime
you want to switch kernels you have to redo the boot menu setup.
No matter which way you want to go, we'll help you, but I know that
I personnally have never used System Commander.

It is conceivable to me that you may have installed LILO into the
master boot record and then overwrote it when you installed System
Commander.  Which did you dod first?  You probably want to install
LILO into the boot sector of the partition you installed linux in,
if you are going to use System Commander.

Good!  Would you mind typing,

cat /etc/lilo.conf

and reporting what it says to the list?

Yes my theory is that the boot loader isn't installed.  This is probably
because of an issue with your lilo config.

next installfest. An installfest is a meeting where anyone is welcome to
bring in their computer and get help setting it up.  We are going to
have another one real soon (like Thursday or so).  Details should be
