If you want numbers.  Tom Welch, CTO of Linspire said that last quarter
they shipped 50,000 copies of Linspire at Frys alone
(http://www.tposscon.com/audio.php).  Most of these would come
pre-installed with the PCs.

Linspire is a desktop only distribution of Linux.
