@ is shorthand for the origin, which defaults to the name of the
zone specified in named.conf. You can overwrite @ by setting
$ORIGIN. This is handy when you want to shove multiple subdomains
into a single zone file.

When it comes to BIND, the content may differ, but there is no
difference in the format of an internal or external zone file.

Yes. Make sure you have your [default] $TTL set here as well. The
TTL within your SOA record is the time for your negative cache.
