[luau] connecting tape drive to RH 7.2, 7.3, 8.0

Can someone give me information about connecting a
tape drive to Red Hat 7.2, 7.3 or 8.0.  We can't seem
to get it to work and information is hard to find. 
The server is a Compaq and the tape drive is also
Compaq.  Compaq says information can be found on Linux sites.
