Yes, I tried to plug in the cable into the Linux box. Initially when I plugged it in, I couldn't bring up the GNOME GUI after I booted, not even to sign in. When I would unplug it, I could sign on using the GUI. Strange you say? Well, that's a close echo unless you include a bunch of profanity I was using.

After re-installing Linux the second time, I choose to use KDE as the primary GUI. Interesting is that I can now sign in using the GUI, even if I have it plugged into my eth0. Strange you say? Well, then again we're singing from the same hymnal.

Now, I'm not implying that the install of RH linux was difficult, because it was surprisingly very starightforward for a user who NEVER even saw Linux. However, plugging in a cable modem has turned this into a rather unpleasant experience.

BTW, I WILL NOT be keeping my linux box connected to RR as a server. I just need to download some files for it, then unplug it and configure it as an Oracle DB server.

Why this has to take three days to connect a cable modem is, how should I say it without offending other list members....um, bulls*%#!

Yet, I'm trying to stay positive and a believer in Linux so as to promote it while shouting about its usefulness from the rooftops of corporate America as an Oracle DBA.

I hope that with the brainpower of this list, a solution to connect the tiny little cable thingie to my super big computer boxie will happen soon.

TIA,
Mark
