memtest86 is a neat little program you boot into that runs all sorts of 
tests on your ram specifically designed to make sure there's no problems 
with it.  If your ram passes all 11 tests (takes a LONG time), you can 
be almost certain there are no issues with the ram itself.

However, this does leave the target OS out of the picture, so keep that 
in mind.
