Aloha Al,
I have install 4.5 and 5.0 on a dell P166 and P100. I have had no issues. Are the Hard drive(s) been set to master/slave/single? This sounds more like the boot sector is not writing to the front of the drive. In a 2 drive system the root (/) needs to put on the Master drive. Is the BTX boot loader being put on the master drive? Are you putting a 2nd boot loader (BTX) on the 2nd drive?
Thanks,
Brian
