[luau] Mouse and touchpad on laptop

I'm running Redhat 7.3 on my dell 4100 laptop.  The problem is when I use
a ps/2 mouse, I don't have any trouble switching between the touchpad and
mouse.  However, when I use a USB mouse, my touchpad is rendered useless.
Can anyone help me out?  The reason I ask is that I use my laptop at work,
and I want to be able to unplug at anytime without having to reboot and
still have the touchpad functional.  Thanks in advance.
