Q: Linux and Hard Drive Fragmentation?

I've  always wondered this, and all this talk about swap partitions
got me to thinking about it again --

On FAT16 and FAT32 filesystems (and probably others), Win and DOS has
disk defragmenting tools, yet I've never seen any of these for Linux
- does the filesystem automagically take care of it, or what? I have
wondered for a while, but never dug up the answer.
