Sorry I should have been more specific.  I am not sure why I initially asked
that question.  I wasn't thinking entirely straight.

Ok,
If somehow your firewall rules are preventing DNS look ups, you may have
some luck by setting your machine run a caching BIND.  Kinda kludgy, but it
should work if that is your only problem.
