Generating a new kernel...

Help. I'm trying to generate a new kernel. I have Redhat 7.0 (right
out of the box). I let everything default. I did the:

  make depend
  make clean
  make bzImage

After less than 60 seconds I got the following messages:

  make[2]: *** [ksyms.o] Error 1
  make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.2.16/kernel'
  make[1]: *** [first_rule] Error 2
  make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.2.16/kernel'
  make: *** [_dir_kernel] Error 2

Is it bad out of the box or did I miss something?

Any help would be appreciated. Reply to chavez at hawaii.rr.com. This
