"WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) - A Democratic senator urged state prosecutors Tuesday
to seek an injunction blocking the fall launch of Microsoft's controversial
Windows XP operating system unless the company makes changes to allow easier
use of rival software applications."

"Schumer told reporters he had asked New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer
and his counterparts from other states to file a lawsuit seeking to block
the release of Windows XP "unless Microsoft agrees to make significant
changes to XP either as part of a global settlement or on their own
initiative."

"Schumer said he also asked the Justice Department to make "open access for
competitors" a key condition of any negotiated settlement. The senator said
he has become increasingly concerned by Microsoft's behavior amid
indications XP would sideline products such as AOL Time Warner's instant
messaging software and Eastman Kodak's digital photography software."
