GNU copyleft v1 was 1989, 2 years after the cited Tanenbaum license.  GNU
project started in 1984 and they "did not call our software "free software",
because that term did not yet exist; but that is what it was."
(www.gnu.org).

Current GPL is 1991 copyright.

So GPL before linux, after minix.

The term "open source" comes very late though.  The OSI history
(http://www.opensource.org/docs/history.html) puts it at a meeting in 1998.
