And I would add that we were present for the last launch and
have been for several others. The whole operation is open to
the public. They do make everyone keep a certain minimum
distance during the launch and brief the public over many
commercial and amateur radio frequencies regarding safety
procedures.
For example, we are told that in case of an accident we are
to get inside our cars and close the windows, or go inside
a closed building because of the possibility of fuel
air falling on us.
Various parts of the whole complex are open to the public, even
the area where the space station modules are being built. You
look through viewing windows at the ongoing work and you
walk through mockups of same.
Ann was anti-NASA and anti-Viet Nam during the 60s--like
many other college students. Now she is a rabid NASA
Space Program booster.
I hope that each of you gets to watch at least one launch
and tour the mammoth installation.
