OK New Robert, Same darn Problem --
I have tried all the things mentioned here -- chkconfig, xfs start, etc.
But when I check using ps aux I get nothing. If I try xfs restart I get
failed, or xfs stop -- failed. xfs start works nicely, of course ps aux
still doesn't show. So now I'm stuck -- what next ?

Robert,
I don't know about Mandrake, but there are 2 non-GUI
applications on Redhat one named Xconfigurator, and the
other named xf86config. Both are located in the
/usr/bin/X11(or X11R6) dirs.
regards,
chris
