if you can't get dhcpcd running then getting a DNS nameserver isn't going
to help you. 

Basically, before you run dhcpcd, your NIC is not configured at all. DHCP
provides you with an address... without which you can't connect to the
network at all.. much less a DNS server.

No offense to any of the Oceanic guys, but Road Runner tech support (up in
the mainland I guess) really really really really sucks.

That probably is correct. But I haven't really checked my DNS settings in
many many moons.

What is the output of /var/log/messages?

Actually, what kind of Linux system are you running?

LRP? George Toft's image? I think I have a LRP image ... hey it runs
rrsmpcd. That's a bit too old.

Oh what would i recommend now... If you're going for the floppy based
version.. a stock coyote linux install is pretty good.
