In /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifdown grep for kill
and add the -9 as below

ifdown: kill -9 `cat /var/run/dhcpcd-${DEVICE}.pid`

Dhcpcd acts different if it receives a -9 this seems to break using ifup and
ifdown directly but it allows you to reboot without losing your IP.
Mainly the -9 prevents dhcpcd from deleting the /etc/dhcpc/dhcpcd-eth0.cache
file.

This is on Redhat with the new DHCPCD so if you have a different distro..
Grep all your startup files for dhcpcd.. that,s what I did.

Later,

Barnaby

I'm using a 486 33Mhz. How do you guarantee the DHCP client deamon
doesn't change the IP address between student accesses?
