Chris (and anyone else who can help),
  I need to know what I can do to rectify my mistake. Basically, this is
what I did. After checking the list of supported cards for the Mach64
server under XFree86 3.3.3, I went to CompUSA and bought one of them, an ATI
Xpert 98 (it was listed in tthe section with information specifically
related to the Mach64 chipset). It's a PCI card with 8 megs of RAM.
  I installed it under Win95 first, and everything went fine. Then, when I
booted into Linux, I wasn't able to bring up X windows. That was not
unexpected, of course, as I first had to install XFree86 3.3.3, but after
installing it, I got the following error message, after entering the startx
command:

+++++

Fatal server error: no screens found

When reporting a problem relating to a server chash, please snd the full
server output, not just the last messages

_X11TransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno -111
giving up.

xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to Xserver
xinit: No such process (errno3): Server error

+++++

I don't understand the error message, but what it basically means is that I
can run Linux, just not the Xserver. If anyone can translate the error
message into plain English for me, I would be extremely grateful.

                                                                Many thanks
in advance,

Bud Jones
