I got Mandrake 8.1 up and running last night. The install is the best yet. It even detected my Matrox G450 dual head card and offered to configure each head and recognized my Western Digita 80GB harddrive on a promise ATA ultra66 controller (had a problem with this in beta releases of Mandrake 8.1). But I did have some problems. I couldn't get any of the journaling file systems to work. XFS and Reiser both installed great, but durring boot they try to uncompress a ramdisk image forever (I let both try and uncompress for a couple hours and they never finished). EXT3 gave an error on boot about unable to FSCK mounted root partition and refused to boot. The standard EXT2 works fine though. I am doing some research into why the journaling file systems didn't work and will report back anything I find. Everything else about the install went perfect. I installed it on a dual 166mhz PPro with 256MB ram, matrox g450 pci video, netgear 10/100 ethernet, promise ultra66 pci ide controller, 80gb western digital ata100 hdd (79.5gb / and 500mb swap), 12x ide cd-rom, and ps2 wheel mouse.
