That soundslike a hardware problem (ie bad cable or port in your hub/switch).  When you say Linux runs slow, do you mean network traffic is slow or linux is using too much CPU?  What is your cpu load (from "top" or "ps -o pcpu").  what do you get when you try to ping something?
