I haven't found a good up to date version of linux for Ultra Sparc. Check out www.ultralinux.org. I am running OpenBSD on my sparc5 (32-bit Sun4m) and I have Solaris 8 on my Ultra Enterprise II (64-bit Sun4u). Linux used to run great on sparcs, but no one keeps a distribution up to date. I was thinking about linux from scratch for my ultraII. Debian - no Sun4u version yet Redhat - 6.2 was last version to support sparc Mandrake - 7.1beta was last version Suse - 7.1 was last version (probally the most up-to-date) Caldera - 2.2 was last version Slackware - under heavy development! NetBSD - 1.5.1 (current) OpenBSD & FreBSD - no sun4u support Next to Solaris, NetBSD is probally your best choice for a Netra, unless you want to really do it right and go with Linux From Scratch. http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/ Any reason you are looking at the Netra? They are nice little servers, but what are you going to do with it? I am betting that you can get a better 1U Athalon for less money with more compatability. I love Sparcs (my first computer was a sparc), but they are really designed for specific purposes and with the power of modern x86 processors.....
