My friend said look at http://tivo.samba.org/ for all the info about hack'n your tivo.  There are a couple very important things to nkow/do first:

1. back up the original drive BEFORE you turn on the TiVO
2. this stuff only works with a single drive TiVo unit

I've done a bunch of what they talk about in the FAQ, and it works.

I just looked it over, and they have a new section in there now for
upgrading the original drive size. AWESOME! Im gonna do that this
weekend, and I should have a 200+ hour unit!

Tell them that it is VERY important that they back up the original drive
BEFORE they turn on the TiVO, and put the original drive away in case
they need to restore later. I had to restore my original drive 3 or 4
times when I first started.

Also, this stuff only works with a single drive TiVo unit. That means
the 30 hour units and the DicecTV/TiVo combo WILL NOT WORK.
