The Tivo is a linux box?!?! I missed Warren's article. A friend of mine installed a larger harddrive in his tivo and set up PPP over serial connection between his Tivo and his Linux router. Now his Tivo goes out over his DSL connection to get info about when shows play and he can telnet into the Tivo. If anyone wants more info about Tivo hack'n let me know and I'll get the info from him. Off the top of my head I don't know of any good comparisons between open source and closed source software.
