I currently use an SMC 16 port 10/100 switch at home and it has been great. I have been using the D-link and Linksys low cost switches, hubs, and 10/100 ethernet cards for years with no problems. They are awsome and work great with Linux. I would recomend the SMC 24 port switch or a D-link or Linksys 24 port 10/100 switch. They are all about the same price and give the same performance. I have seen some places selling the D-link and Linksys 24 port 10/100 switches with 10 10/100 ethernet cards for like $250. I have always used DLT tape drives with my servers at work, but they are expensive. If you are looking for something inexpensive look at the TapeStor Travan Tape Drives. I have an old 4GB version that has had no troubles. The new ones go up to 40GB which go for around $1200. They have a 20GB version that is $250 IDE/ $300 SCSI. I read they get like 120MB per minute throughput. I don't know how well the new ones work, but for the price they are great.
