The clamp-on is the safest, since you don't have to expose any wiring, yet still have to get the circular clamp around one leg of the circuit. The 2nd method is a little dangerous if you don't know what you are doing, since you do have to break the circuit and insert the meter in series. Of course the meter for the 2nd is cheaper (< $20 at Radio Shack). If any of this seems foreign or you are uncomfortable with electriciy, then I suggest not trying it. Sorry, it's something I would chose to do if I suspected a power demand problem. If you can't measure it, then you are left with the ol' undesirable "process of deduction" method (like trying a higher capacity power supply,if that's what you think it is). I suspect something from the motherboard (software or hardware) is telling your (I'm presuming) ATX power supply to shutdown or maybe your power supply is bad. Then, maybe its something as simple as a loose power cord plug-in connection that disconnects when things heat up.
