If you want file services, the infrant (now netgear) was designed by ibm storage systems guys and is very nice...but it's not a general purpose linux box.

i'm waiting to see how the new nano itx boards look to see how i can build a super small and low power (electrical) server. If power consumption and noise is less of an issue, i lover supermicro....the new short case rack jobs (1ru) is less expensive than name brand, but still are certified for vmware esx server with all the vtc cpu extensions.

Of late, i've grown tired of making a Mac do weird server things.
(ie, making 10.3.9 client behave like a full-blown server, etc.)

What's best these days for a cheap, headless Linux server to use for  
setting up a small server or cluster?
No need, as such, just yet, for RAID.
Although I would prefer something that fits in a rack, and that was  
inexpensive.

Suggestions?
Is there any local supplier of such things?
