Mahalo to all for the responses:

Year's ago I tried an Internet install of FreeBSD on a previous desktop.
Unfortunately, I didn't have the abundance of storage then, that I have 
now.  I was intrigued by their implementation of the partitioning problem.

I also downloaded the free distro of Solaris (a while ago) but never could
figure out their installation instructions.

I've got time & 1/2 to mess around and also want to try the 250Mb 
flash drive install.
