Yes, it not only runs better but it also officially supported.

Which Beta did you try? I've been running the latest Beta 6.06
since late April when it was released. Ubuntu has a 6 month
release cycle (so was originally intended to ship in April).
The scope of this release as it involves Long Term Support
(hence Ubuntu 6.06 LTS) meant that it was intentionally pushed
back 6 weeks to add further polish and a further push for other
aspects.

So yes, I've been running the Beta since April and there have
been at least 25 updates per day
(https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/dapper-changes/2006-May/thread.html).
Updates only began slowing down about a week ago when updates
were frozen (no feature updates). This was also a similar
situation when I ran Beta for the 5.10 release.

So the Beta is _NOT an accurate indication. For Ubuntu there is
a huge difference between the Beta release and final releases.

We are in the process of updating the Ubuntu mirror so check
here for a local mirror or download via BitTorrent:

I'm planning on writing a review for Ubuntu 6.06 on my laptop.

Here's what I wrote for 5.10:
