Building an Open Source Software Economy: A Legal and Business Analysis

Sponsored by The University of Hawaii, Novell, and HOSEF

September 27-28, 2004

Leading Open Source Software (OSS) strategist, Bruce Perens, and Novell,
a premier provider of OSS enterprise solutions, will be discussing the
integration of OSS into Hawaii's economy. Bruce Perens is presenting a
new paper entitled "The Economics of Open Source Software." Novell is
discussing its corporate strategy not only to adopt OSS solutions
internally, but also to build the Novell brand around an OSS platform
like Linux. Bringing focus to local success, Ho'ala Greevy of Pau Spam
will be discussing their integration of Linux with proprietary solutions
to deliver Enterprise Quality Spam protection. Anthony Clapes of Lawyers
in Paradise will present the opportunities awaiting Hawaii in the
growing global OSS marketplace. R. Scott Belford of HOSEF will describe
the educational initiatives and successes in Hawaii.
