Hmm, you doint' need WINS, DNS or a PDC.  I would suspect it is a 
networking or perhaps an allowed-host issue.

nmap my.smb.ser.ip -p 139 should show as open.  telnet could be just as 
useful if you don't have nmap.

More information such as ip and subnets of the two computers (or 
equivalent) and the version of samba/linux and what you have tried so far.

What happens when you NET VIEW \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ?

Your WINS or DNS server probably isn't setup or setup correctly. If Samba
is acting as your PDC, then you would probably want that to act as your 
DNS
server? I'm not too sure on that as I haven't reached that level yet.
However, I will be setting up a PDC next week for a few schools. Hopefully
I'll learn more by then or perhaps my head will explode. :-)

I can't see the box in the Network Neighborhood. Is there something I'm
missing? I'll try mapping to the IP address.
