The oldest binary I found on FreeBSD's site is:
ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/i386/4.6.2-RELEASE/packages/editors/AbiWord-gnome-1.0.1.tgz

If you do not want to upgrade from 4.5, then that might be your
best option. You might be missing a bunch of dependencies if you
do it that way.

Installation HOWTOs are usually not necessary if you keep
/usr/ports updated.

If you follow the -STABLE or -CURRENT tree, you can install it
automagically via /usr/ports/editors/AbiWord.

4.8 is tagged as RC1 right now. Just a few weeks before
4.8-RELEASE is announced. (Silly me thought 4.8 was already
released.)
