Thanks for the discussions.  I am very encouraged by the interest.  
Perhaps there is some background info I need to supply:

Although I have not tried yet, the ShuttleX Linux demo PC that I am 
talking about allows booting from a USB port (basically Linux will treat 
it as a SCSI port).  Thus, if things can be worked out, a flash card 
would offer a lot more advantages than a Knoppix-type bootable CD.

The Knoppix CD actually contains about 2 GB of data compressed into 650 
MB.  I have installed a Knoppix distro onto a hard disc, customized it, 
then re-mastered into another CD.  But the performance was always 
substantially slower than the original.   Yes, Klaus has provided the 
exact procedure, but I couldn't find out what I did wrong.  This is one 
area that I am always interested in exploring further.

While Moore's law is now largely irrelevant with respect to CPU speed, 
it is gaining respect regarding flash memories.  And we may see 512 MB 
or more flash cards becoming norm in the near future.  Being to able to 
be contained in a flash card, complete with applications, is something 
Linux can see a clear advantage over Windows.
