[luau] multiple CLI

hi, I can't startx on my laptop which has mandrake 8.1 installed on it.
So at the moment I basically have one CLI running.  My question, Is it
possible to open another interface so I can other things in the
background?? Ive tried using the & after a comman but when I type another
command it kills the background job.
