/etc/hosts is an equivalent.

Have you considered upgrading to Red Hat 7.3?  Free download, and many
things about it are considerably better, especially in the system
administration tool.
(Although they are rather poor by comparison to the tools contained in
Mandrake 8.2.  Please give both a try.)
