The first step of securing Linux before using those hardening guides and
tools should be to apply all Red Hat update packages.  They are all listed
here.

You could download and install these all manually, but it is much faster if
you can connect to the Internet, use rhn_register to create your RHN
account, go on the website to Entitle your machine (you get one free
entitlement) then use up2date to automatically download and install
packages.
