That's good.  As an aside, there are a number of good IDEs for linux,
that may suit you better than gedit. The two most user-friendly/complete
are probably Anjuta (Gtk+/Gnome based) and KDevelop (QT/KDE based). 
They both just call g++ (or gcc or whatever) under the hood, but they
add cool features such as syntax highlighting, makefile generation, and
a builtin debugger (they both use gdb under the hood for debugging I
believe).

I personally use gVim and many, many people use GNU Emacs or XEmacs. 
These two are a bit less user-friendly, but are much more powerful.
