Never had the luxury of having one.  And personally I'd buy a monitor 3 feet
deep if it were 21" or so.  Maybe I'm reading too much into this question,
but is it that you're having trouble, or just that you're wondering if you
should buy one?  If you're having trouble, I'd suggest that you read your
monitor manual to pick out the refresh ranges, then tell Xconfigurator that
you want to set the values manually.
