Welcome Scott, I am about in your boat. Hanging out at the meetings and 
asking questions will help. There are ?courses at ?HCC. I saw a website 
which purports to give credits. Warren and other members can teach you a 
lot. Try the book Linux complete by Sybex. Good luck
