"Well, if you read through the entire article you'll realize the Pentium 4
"Northwood" is a better faster Pentium 4 with the new features but in the
end, it still takes a backseat to the faster Athlon XPs now at 1.67 GHz.
Note that this test attempted to level the chip to chip playing field buy
using the new Intel DDR chipset motherboards and that the RDRAM-based
solutions are most likely a bit faster. A big question in all of this though
is, at what cost? The Pentium 4 is a really expensive chip. The 2.2GHz part
we reviewed here runs a minimum of $550 while the Athlon XP 2000+ is almost
half the price at $280. The price of DDR instead of RDRAM is still an issue
also (if you want to get the most out of the Pentium 4) with the price of
RDRAM over DDR being about $15 for 256MB. I can't think of any reason at all
to spend that much on a Pentium 4. Twice the money for almost equal
performance most of the time?"
