Need Help or Advise

Hello to all,

As you know I'm planning to install Linux (Mandrake) once I get my system... 
however, my son goes to Leeward and said if I install Linux on our home 
system, He won't be able to get any work done... because Leeward has MS 
Word...  are there any compatable software that I could use?  I'd still 
rather try Linux..  Please advise?  If you need to call me, I'm at work
