In the 2.2.x kernel, I found a proc.txt file in the Documentation
direction.  Did not find anything useful on /proc/stat though.  You might
want to read the contents of this file anyway, if you need this type of
information.

It might be useful to other people if you email the authors of this file
and ask them to include the answers to your question in future releases.
