Also, when you run ifconfig it shows the ip address of all your local NIC
interfaces.
So, by looking at ifconfig you can see that your eth0 (NIC Card) IP address
is 24.161.133.184.

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:E0:29:9D:5F:3E
          inet addr:24.161.133.184 Bcast:255.255.255.255
Mask:255.255.248.0

Subject: [luau] traceroute/ping, IP question

Can someone clarify which is my IP address from the following lines
ifconfig,
ping, and traceroute. These are all from the same machine, each done right
after the other. Is my IP 24.161.128.1 or 24.161.133.184?

1st line of traceroute to 128.171.211.157:
1 a24b161n128client1.hawaii.rr.com (24.161.128.1) 170.224 ms 76.324 ms
97.707 ms

1st line of ping to www.google.com:
PING www.google.com (216.239.33.101) from 24.161.133.184 : 56(84) bytes of
data.

ifconfig:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:E0:29:9D:5F:3E
          inet addr:24.161.133.184 Bcast:255.255.255.255
Mask:255.255.248.0

Thanks,
Rodney
