Meeting Updates:
There is a possibility of the ITEC conference being cancelled due to
the happenings in New York and Washington, but I do not think that it
will happen.
The booth arrangements and hardware requirements have been handled for
ITEC.
Tickets with the MPLUG and ALOHA URLs will be available from Deven
Phillips starting at 5PM tomorrow. Call 348-0885 or e-mail the list for
info.
Booth setup if you are willing to help will be on Tuesday the 18th from
9AM until 6PM. Some of will be meeting at Mid-Pac to gather equipment
around 9:30AM. Please e-mail the list for information and coordination.
Parking for setup will be in the convention center in section F. Please
preregister at the goitec.com website prior to setup if you wish to help
so that your badge will be ready for you.

We need to have a minimum of 3 people in our booth during each shift.
If you are interested in volunteering for time to spend in the booth
please let the mailing list know, and add yourself to this page. It
would be good to have extra booth volunteers in case someone can't make
it.
Panel Participants

Backup for Panel Participation
Warren Togami
Ron Willis is coordinating the panel and is looking for good open Vs
closed source questions. The questions will be given to the panel
participants ahead of time, so they can prepare. There will also be a
question and answer session with questions from the audience. We need
people in the audience and could use a few more panel participants. If
you are interested please let the list know.
Booth presentations
It was decided that internet connectivity is not necessary. We will
have our own internal network. It might be a good idea to use some of
Warren's wiki pages on the server to show as a web page. Linux terminal
server/thin clients Samba PDC Live Install (this will take place at 11
am and 2 PM daily) (this needs ownership) Backup prepared presentation -
something that can be run through like a slide show, in case other
things are not working (this needs ownership)
Sandi: Robert Green is working on a slide show that can be used as a
backup presentation or just left to run on an idle machine for people to
look at if they aren't feeling interactive -- the idea behind it being a
slide show showcasing Open Source as a commercial and/or desktop
solution, and probably showcasing its strengths in comparison with
commercial apps. This will probably run on Kpresenter.
Warren: I disagree about internet connectivity. If Charles' cellular
modem works, it seriously can be fast enough with a Squid proxy
pre-populated with 20GB of data for basic web surfing in order to
demonstrate that Linux web browsers work well. Of course, the other, and
much faster option would be bumming off an 802.11 connection from
another booth. I will also have the hardware for this contingency
available should the opportunity arises.
Booth Handouts
We will have software CDs to give to interested people. The following
people will contact vendors to try and get donated software CDs for the
show
Red Hat - Warren Togami
Mandrake - Dustin Cross
Sun - Star Office - Sandi Schneiderman
Deven: I have contacted MandrakeSoft, and Eugene Pixo is working with
the LA offices to send us their remaining stock of 8.0 CDs. Since
Mandrake 8.1 is due out any day now, that should be quite nice.
Deven: I just got a call from LinuxNetworx, and they may be sending
some promotional materials as well.
We will also have a handout to give to people. It will include some
information about open source and information on how to get on the luau
mailing list. (Warren and Ho'ala are going to be working on this? - if
you can help with the handout please let us know)
Warren: Yes I am working on handouts, but please, other people write
handouts. And remember, this must be completely NON-COMMERCIAL. No
advertisements for yourself or company on these handouts, but we can put
your information on the ITEC MPLUG web page URL that we give to people.
Booth preparation
Set up will be done on Tuesday night September 18th, exact time TBD
Buzz Caraang has a truck Patrick Smith has 3 folding tables and chairs
Buzz and Patrick will bring tables and chairs Warren Togami will bring
the computer equipment Ho'ala Greevy will bring table drapes Joel Hatch
will provide a guest list book (this can come on Wednesday morning with
Joel) If anyone else is interested in helping set up on Tuesday night
please let us know.
Another planning meeting
There will be another meeting to plan for ITEC on either Tuesday
September 11th or Wednesday September 12th at Mid Pac. Warren will post
the details Maybe we should try for September 11th so as not to conflict
with the HI Tech summit on the 12th and 13th.
Tickets to ITEC
You can contact Bill or Ron to get free tickets to ITEC Bill Musson
(221-9929, bmusson at hawaii.rr.com) Ron Willis (949-7313,
ronal at linuxnetworks.org) __Sandi: Deven also has tickets and can be
reached at 348-0885 or at dphillips at viata.com. He also, would like to
make a stamp for the lugs to stamp onto the back of the tickets to say
who sponsored them. If you are interested in giving out tickets or
helping to stamp them, please contact Deven.
Questions for Deven Phillips
Dustin Cross will contact Deven and try to resolve some of the
confusion. Is Deven going to be at ITEC?
Sandi: Deven has confirmed that he WILL be at ITEC.
Has Deven already collected any money?
Deven: I have not collected any money, but I have some money to
contribute.
Did Deven arrange for sponsors?
Deven: I have talked to sponsors, but there have been no definite
responses except from MandrakeSoft.
Does Deven have the open source banner?
Deven: Yes, I have the banner.
Did Deven get software CDs to hand out?
Deven: Not yet, but I am working on it.
Questions for Julie Parsons or Darren - the ITEC organizer
Ho'ala will contact Julie (jparsons at imark-com.com 503-968-8889) or
Darren and get the answers to the following questions: Is carpet for the
booth being provided? Deven: No. The carpet costs $240.
Are we allowed to bring our own tables and chairs? Deven: Yes
What are our power limitations? Deven: We are ordering a 10 amp circuit
for $90
What is the exact dollar amount for our fees? Deven: Sandi should know,
she put it on her credit card.
When do we need to turn in the money, who does it go to, and to whom
should the check be made out to? Deven: Again, see the above answer.
What time on Tuesday night September 18th can we set up? Is it
safe/okay to leave computer equipment overnight on Tuesday and Wednesday
nights? Deven: There is security at the show, but the conference does
not hold any liability. Personally, I think it would be okay, but I
won'y guarantee.
How late can we stay on Thursday September 20th to clean up?
Deven: Probably as late as we need to from my experience.
Donations
Ho'ala will find out if we need more money or not. We were able to
collect $240 last night for our booth at ITEC, thanks to the following
individuals who all contributed cash! Joel Hatch, Patrick Smith, Robert
Hershberger, Doug Long, Jeff Wong, Ray Leonard, Kevin Mcnamara, Buzz
Caraang, Ho'ala, Ron Willis, Charles Paul, Sandi Schneiderman, Dustin
Cross
Warren: Mark Hines and I are covering costs of Linux CD's, handout
duplication and perhaps a sign or two.

In any collection of data, the figure most obviously correct,
beyond all need of checking, is the mistake

(1) Nobody whom you ask for help will see it.
(2) The first person who stops by, whose advice you really
don't want to hear, will see it immediately.
