I have had good experiences with the SMC EZ FDT series of switches, that are considerably cheaper than even Linksys. This data spec sheet claims 5.8Gbps backplane, though I haven't tested it beyond 2Gbps with squid load testing.

Subject: [luau] "less-expensive" switch hardware
The Linksys switches have an internal backplane speed of 2.7Gbps, which is higher than the DLink switches' apparent speed of 1.6Gbps. Linksys stuff has always worked out for me, and they generally make a point of supporting Linux with their NICs. Anyone have a preference for a brand of "less-expensive" switches?
Thanks for your answer,
