SUCCESS (Mail Conversion from Outlook Express)

After over two years of working in vain, a single sentence tip from Ray
Strode finally made an easy conversion from my several years of Outlook
Express mail archives to Linux.

1) Install imap-2000c package in Red Hat 7.2.
2) Create IMAP account, login with Outlook Express.
3) Drag all mail to IMAP folders.

DONE!

Conversion has been completely perfect as far as I can see, and it kept the
Reply, Forward and Urgent flags. The converters of Mozilla and Kmail would
crash hard when attempting to convert my Outlook Express archives.

Both Kmail and Evolution IMAP support seems to be fully compatible with the
converted IMAP data on the server, showing all of those wonderful flags.
Unfortunately, I have discovered that Mozilla Mail sucks horribly in both
performance and lack of flag conversion. I hope they implement those things
and improve IMAP performance with 70,000 messages before version 1.0... (not
likely).

But here's the best part:
Because it is now IMAP based, I can use any IMAP client from any location or
any operating system and have a common view of my e-mail archives. This
means I can use Kmail or Evolution in Linux (there are several others that I
haven't tested yet), Outlook Express in Windows, or web based Squirrel Mail.
All I gotta do now is use cron to schedule my server to use fetchmail to
periodically grab mail from my ISP, delivering directly into the IMAP
folders.

Thanks Ray! You are a genius! (Ray has been doing this setup for over a
year now at his house.)
