minicom from the command line will let you know if your modem
works,you can also see the sequence that your provider uses
before the PPP packets start...then you should look for a
man page for PPPd.In Red Hat, it's a snap,done from the
setting command panel...sometimes you have to set up a script
to answer the ogin: and assword: prompts
