Install KDE?

Aloha,

I have tried both Mandrake 8 and RedHat 7.1 and both cause miserable problems
that I've finally thrown in the towel on trying to solve.

I'm back to using RedHat 7 and it's running nicely. But heck, I want all the
newest fancy bells and whistles and doo dads.

Is installing a recent version of KDE going to be more trouble than it's worth?
I downloaded all the RPMs and when I tried to install I got a lot of
dependency errors. The instructions talk about needing certain libraries, but
I've learned nothing about those yet? And the rest of the post-install notes
at Kde.org seem to be over my head for the most part.

I can't get to the site right now or I'd name the libraries I'm thinking of.

I guess my question is whether installing KDE or upgrading is all that hard,
and if anyone knows of a current howto I'd appreciate the reference.

Thanks,
